Tuesday
Yes, I know it's not in chronological order. We didnt take any piccies on Tuesday 'cause we spent all day travelling. I think I over-estimated the distance you can cover in a day on eastern european roads. We left Krakow just after 8.00am and arrived in Vilnius at about 8.30pm. Everybody must have been very busy in Poland because they have not had chance to build many motorways, so it was 500 miles plus with minimal motorways. We went round the Warsaw ring rood at mid-day, a bit like the north circular before the M25 was built. Once past Warsaw we started to see plenty people working in the fields with horses. The last 100 miles of Poland, from Augustow to the Lithuanian border was great scenery, lots of lakes & forests, and the traffic was lighter. Scenery from border to Vilnius was all good. Petrol is similar priced to UK, maybe slightly cheaper in some places. We also "lost" another hour when we crossed from Poland to Lithuania as we are now 2 hrs ahead of UK time. Food & drink seems good value in both Poland & Lithuania, despite the weak pound. We had a very good two course lunch today (Wednesday) in a little bistro for £20 , that included a bottle of wine that would have been £20 in a UK restaurant. Well seeing as it's now 7.30pm here we need to be going out for drinkies, spotted a nice restaraunt earlier for dinner tonight, one of the dishes on the menu was beaver, not sure if it was a translation error or if the dam building chappies really are on the menu. One minute your collecting twigs, next minute your on your way to a fancy restaurant, not a good end to your day.
