Highlight of the day was finding the part of the
Elblag canal where boats are raised out of the water in cradles & towed uphill on a pulley system (as seen on Michael
Palin's series). You might have thought this a big tourist attraction but there is no sign-posting & there was nobody else there besides ourselves & the two guys who operate it. Temperature was up to 30 deg by this time. The system is powered by a waterwheel & massive steel cables - built in 1860 & still working today. Visited
Malbork castle on the way to Gdansk - pictures on Gills camera so will load them later. Hotel in Gdansk is great, it's a converted granary with the only
micro brewery in Gdansk. Tried the wheat beer & dark beer last night - both very good. Picture at night is view from our room window, sticky up mast in foreground is...
well its a mast 'cause there is a marina outside. Other pictures are mainly of the canal, and one of a lake on route. After the canal we did
about 10km on cobbled roads - nice !. It's not as warm this (Friday) morning so should be comfortable temperature for discovering Gdansk - will keep my eyes peeled for Lech.
